Pinched forms 2013

A new class has started, and we always begin with pinched forms.  I have been trying to be conscious about not using the term pinch pots, so the idea that they are not limited to cups and bowls is already planted in their heads.  This first assignment is their very first clay project.  It lets me know where the class baseline is and allows me to introduce texture, some basic joining, and glazing.  They are using a low fire Texas Talc clay with grog, which I must say has been absolutely lovely compared to some of our white clays in the past.  It also starts out gray and fires white, which immediately introduces them to the chemical changes that happen in the kiln.  Here are some of their first forms.  They are in no particular order, simply which ones I grabbed off the trays first to photograph.
